So, what are the "cheap" journals?

Journals have become famous (or infamous) for how expensive they can be to publish in, with the higher tier journals costing almost $ 10000. I suspect there may be a point where funding agencies demand justification for high article processing charges (APCs), when cheaper options are available. This then begs the question, what are the cheap journals?

Most publishers will make the first few years of a new journal free to publish in, so I will not be considering them. Moreover, many subscription-based journals are still free to publish in, with additional fees for open access.

Thus, I arrived at this list of low-APC journals relevant to the field I am in, where the journals are:

1. Not pre-print exclusive.
2. Have JCI impact factors or backed by academic societies
3. Are open access.

Diamond open access, but a relatively new journal that hasn't received an impact factor yet.

Diamond open access, also rather selective.

Platinum open access. Does not have an impact factor, but backed by the Swiss Chemical Society.

Platinum open access? The website is not very clear, and the journal does not have an impact factor. The journal is backed by the Korean Society for Mass Spectrometry.
